Qatar is an independent state of
some 0.8 million inhabitants situated on the southern shore of the
Arabian Gulf. It gained its independence from the UK in 1971. It covers
an area of some 11.4 thousand square kilometers.
The LNG planned to be shipped to
South Hook will come from a reservoir called the North Field which is
located off the coast of Qatar in the Arabian Gulf. This is the largest
discovered gas field in the world. To give some idea of its size, the
currently estimated proven reserves would meet existing UK natural gas
demand for almost 250 years. |
