Hobbs Point is a well known location within the town of Pembroke Dock that sits on the tidal stretch of the river Cleddau. The spot is frequented by anglers and in the summer it is popular with youngsters who like jumping off the pier into the cooling water. However, few people are aware of what lies just beneath the surface. Push-bikes, trollies, and boat parts are some of the items that are persistently dumped into the water, collecting around the pier itself. As well as the obvious safety issues, this has a significant effect on the local environment. So tonight volunteer divers were joined by members of the Fire Services’ Marine Rescue Unit to begin removing the rubbish from the river. Members of the newly formed Pembroke Dock Environment Action Team will be on hand to transfer rubbish to a skip ready for disposal, and to conduct a litter-pick of the area surrounding the pier. The event was coordinated and organised by Simon Preddy Fly-tipping Officer and his colleagues at Keep Wales Tidy, Pier House Pembroke Dock with Objective One assistance
