| <>Tidy Wales Week 2007
will be taking place from 25th June-1st July Less rubbish words more action needed. Surveys show that the people of Wales are the most environmentally aware in the UK. But environmental campaigners Keep Wales Tidy are to put the Nations’ green concerns to the test by calling for a week- long Nationwide clean up of litter black spots. From 25th June to 1st July Keep Wales Tidy will be appealing to people living in every corner of the country to convert their concerns for their environment into real hands-on action. Last year 30,000 people of all ages did their bit to clean up their neighbourhoods and as a result many long standing litter blots on the landscape were removed. The ‘Visit Wales’ sponsored campaign resulted in over 11,000 bags of litter being recovered by volunteers at almost 500 locations. This year the organisers hope that at least 50,000 people will be getting their hands dirty. To assist groups to take part, Keep Wales Tidy have produced 1000 free clean-up kit financed again by the same sponsors. The kits are available to anybody wanting to take part in the campaign and will be allocated on a first come first-served basis. They contain posters, promotional items, tabards, local authority contacts and a booklet explaining how to organise a busy and fun event. Tegryn Jones, Chief Executive of Keep Wales Tidy commented. ”People constantly complain about the state of their streets, beaches and rivers. We are now offering those help and support to do their bit to make Wales a cleaner, safer and tidier country. It costs £40 million to clean up our waste and rubbish - money that could be better spent building schools and hospitals.” Amongst events currently in the planning stage are an underwater clean up in Pembrokeshire, removal of thousands of dumped tyres from a beautiful Valleys mountainside, canoeists cleaning up rivers across Wales and a large-scale cleanup of Caerphilly Castle and Moat . _______________________________________________________________ For further information please contact Wynne Williams, Communications Manager, Keep Wales Tidy.
