Over the past few weeks, a small group of pupils from Pembroke School have been in and around Pembroke Dock carrying out a number of clean ups. The pupils are working towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award and the clean ups have been organised as part of the Pride in Our Communities Project, operated by Keep Wales Tidy, Pembrokeshire County Council and Environment Agency Wales, and part-funded by the EUs Objective-1 Programme. To date the girls have given a total of 29 hours service and collected over 38 bags of rubbish from Western Way, London Road and Fort Road beach. Keep Wales Tidy’s Fly-tipping Officer commented “the group have shown great commitment over the past few weeks, doing a job that no-one should have to do. These young people are really taking a stand against those who persist in this type of anti-social behaviour.” Further clean ups have been planned over the next month. For further information on the project in Pembrokeshire, or if you would like to get involved, please contact Simon Preddy on 01646 681949. Keep Wales Tidy is a registered Environmental Charity working for the improvement of Wales’ local environments. Visit our website for more information; www.keepwalestidy.org
