ASSISTANT PORT MANAGER APPOINTED
AT MILFORD HAVEN
A former Operations Manager
with Associated British Ports has taken up the new post of Assistant
Port Manager with Milford Haven Port Authority.
Emma Lewis has a a diverse background in all aspects of port and dock
operations, bringing valuable experience to this newly created role,
which includes responsibility for the ongoing development of commercial
activities at Milford Docks and Marina.
Having obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Emma embarked on a
Management training programme with Associated British Ports in Newport,
developing a strong working knowledge of port and dock operations.
Through a conscious programme of ongoing professional development which
has included completing an Open University MBA, Emma’s career in the
Marine Industry has led her to work for a number of successful UK Ports.
Previous appointments have included further management training with the
port of Hull, as well as Safety and Personnel Officer with Swansea &
Port Talbot. More recently Emma has had responsibility for the delivery
of safety advice and training within a commercial context, at the Port
of Ipswich.
Significant experience in marine-related event management will also be a
distinct advantage in her new role, as Emma will be heavily involved in
the successful delivery of a number of quayside events planned at
Milford Marina this summer.
Said Emma “This is a great opportunity to join one of the most
successful ports in the UK, especially at a time when so many new
developments are occurring on the Haven – and of course, during the
Authority’s 50th Anniversary year.
“The job is already proving to be quite varied, allowing me the
opportunity to consolidate existing business, whilst seeking new
opportunities that will drive the organisation forward, both in terms of
our commercial and leisure-related activities.”
Still the largest fishing port in Wales, with a continuing growth in
commercial traffic from tankers to construction vessels, Milford Docks
remains one of the most prominent ports on the West Coast.
Emma will be based at Milford Marina, working directly to the
Authority’s Port Manager, Mike Ashworth, also deputising for him at
