Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service (RMAS) Tribute< > A Church Service within the Depot of the Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service at Pembroke Dock was held on Sunday 24th June 2007. The Service was held as a tribute to those who work in the Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service (RMAS) which will be stood down later in the year and to commemorate the cessation of the Dockyard Port. The Service was conducted by Rev. Andrew Davies, Team Rector of Pembroke Dock assisted by Rev. Anthony Gregory, Methodist Circuit Minister. Over 300 people attended together with contingents from the local Air Training Corps, Sea Cadets from Pembroke Dock and other units from the West Wales Area. The Preacher at the Service was Rev. Michael Brotherton, MBE, RN who is Staff Chaplain to the Flag Officer Sea Training. Rev. Brotherton is a former Curate of Pembroke Dock and in his sermon he recalled his early work with members of the Dockyard staff some 25 years ago. The Service included a brief account of the Royal Naval Dockyard and the service connections with the town given by Mr Richard Craig who is the General Manager of the RMAS. The Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, Hon. Robin Lewis and Captain John Wills from the Ministry of Defence read the lessons. Commodore Jamie Miller, CBE, the Royal Navy Liaison Officer for Wales and the South West read the Naval Prayer at the end of the Service. There was a symbolic folding of the flags of the RMAS and the Royal Navy at the end of the service by two members of the Sea Cadet Contingent present. The Chairman of Pembrokeshire County Council Councillor Bill Roberts and Mrs Roberts together with The Mayors and Mayoresses of Pembroke and Pembroke Dock (Councillor Keith and Mrs McNiffe, Councillor and Mrs Paul Weatherall) also attended. The Church Collection of £420 has been donated to the Royal National Society for Deep Sea Fishermen, the King George Fund for Sailors, the Mission to Seafarers and Apostleship of the Sea and the Combat Stress Organisation which helps Service Personnel deal with the after effects of Warfare.
