Milford Haven Port Authority will today name there
new pilot cutter "Skomer" in Pembroke Dock, the web team were unable to
get access to the naming ceremony this afternoon.........we did try, but
got no response from the port authority to our requests for
information.......so we can only report details we have sourced for
other contacts. The craft has been built by Mustang Marine here in the
Dock for a reported £1 m. we wish her good sailing. We are told that our
Mayor Councillor Sue Perkins is attending....but at the moment that's
all we can tell you, we will try to get an update if we
can............The Project team apologises for not being able to
obtain a live report and pictures of this imporoject team apologises for
not being able to obtain a live report and pictures of
this important and interesting event
*Skomer
has been designed as a fast and responsive craft which will provide
quicker access to ships to deliver pilots on board, a continuation of
the trend towards improved customer service set by the Port Authority’s
purchase of Robert Hastie four years ago.
The 10-person, 50 tonne vessel is designed to have a minimum
service life of 15 years, and will have a number of additional features
including environmentally-friendly holding tanks for waste water, and
advanced engines and control systems.
Milford Haven Port Authority harbourmaster Mark Andrews said he was
delighted with the progress on the contract.
“This is a significant investment for us, not just because the
value of the project is in excess of £1m, but because Skomer will mean
that we can maintain the high standards of service and safety which our
customers expect from us.”

Port they are reported to be berthing on Dale Anchorage. RFA Sir Galahad will
be tied up at Carr Jetty at the same time
The inaugural meeting of the team took place last evening. 14
of the 24 people invited attended with 2 apologies. Councillor Ron
Watts was elected as Chairman of the Group and it was decided that
initially meetings would be held at approximately monthly intervals
whilst areas for improvement / action are identified and follow up
action taken.
Mr Brain Maddocks from Pembrokeshire County Council stated
that the new mechanised sweeper to be used in Pembroke and Pembroke
Dock will shortly be in use for 11 hours per day 7 days a week to
ensure that main streets in the town and the surrounding residential
areas were kept free from litter etc. The group highlighted areas
where there appeared to be problems with litter and it was agreed
that the London Road area in the vicinity of the InStore and Focus /
Do It All Stores would be targeted for immediate improvement.
The possibility of the use of a “Name and Shame” policy would also
be considered as well as having a “Clean Up Day” which would
encourage public participation.
The Team was also informed that it was likely that there
would be two Police Community Support Officers operating in the town
by the end of the year who would be able to issue fixed penalty
notices for offences such as dropping litter, dog fouling, graffiti
etc. It was pleasing to note that the group were very positive and
hopefully this enthusiasm will in turn produce the improvement which
is sought.
There followed a constructive meeting laying out the aims and
objectives of the team. It was agreed that the Pembroke Dock
Community Web Project be fully involved with this exciting project.
The Web Project will now develop a stand alone web presence, to
inform and educate the community of Pembroke Dock of the advantages
and gains of being a environmentally friendly resident, so watch
this space.......you might learn something

Web Team 30th April 2006 Pembroke Dock
(aj)
It was an overcast sky that
welcomed the Mayor of Pembroke Dock Councillor Ron Watts to Bush
Street Youth Centre to support Pembrokeshire Scouts by being carried
by rickshaw round the streets of Pembroke Dock. Mayor Watts is now
entering the last few days of his stewardship of the office of
Mayor, with a still full and busy diary. The Mayor reported he
had been kept on his toes in the last few weeks by the scouts and
highlighted the special church service he attended last Sunday
, The scouts smartly marched off from the youth centre to church for
the service "I was especially impressed by the fact that the
scouts were running the whole service, with some of the youngest
members reading the lessons".
He added "I am delighted to be here today and be able in this
small way to support our young people here in Pembroke Dock and the
rest of Pembrokeshire"
The Rickshaw has already been
seen around Pembrokeshire raising funds for Pembrokeshire Scouting
Movement, with visits including Haverfordwest, Milford Haven,
Pembroke and today here in Pembroke Dock....The fun will end in
Tenby with a ride round the historic town before a beach party
...yes on the famous beaches of Tenby.
