New Mayor’s wife
“Jazzes” up the Council?
The new Mayor for the
year 2011 to 2012 is Cllr Andrew McNaughton. In a brief
acceptance speech he spoke of looking forward keenly to
his year in office and commented that he thought his
wife Jane would be the first American Lady to take on
the role of supporting a mayor of Pembroke Dock in his
duties. She comes from the deep - south Jazz capital of
America – New Orleans. He was formally elected at the
council meeting of February 10th and will
have his civic dinner on 13th May at the
Cleddau Bridge Hotel.
Having been on the
council for a few years now and deputy mayor this year,
Cllr McNaughton has already tried his hand out as a
chairman of a committee being chair of the Joint
Pembroke and Pembroke Dock Town Guide sub committee. He
also sits on the planning committee and the
Consultation committee. He is a councillor for the
Market Ward and works as an IT consultant and computer
technician.
His deputy for the
year will be another fairly new face to the council, but
not a new face to the public of Pembroke and Pembroke
Dock. Councillor Peter Kraus is well known locally for
his enthusiastic charity fund- raising for a number of
good causes and has “plotted” some spectacular
kidnappings, gala show evenings and publicity events all
to generate more cash for charities. Like Andrew he is
self employed as as proprietor of a car hire and courier
service but still finds time to serve the community. He
is a keen supported and President of the cricket Club
and one of the driving forces behind the spitfire
project at Haverfordwest aerodrome and also sits as a
councillor Trustee of the Pater Community Hall.
