The RAF in wartime had more bicycles than any other form of transport so it is only fitting that Pembroke Dock’s Flying Boat Centre - custodians of the Haven’s aviation history - should have its own RAF bike!
The 1940s vintage bike, in an authentic RAF blue, was rescued in the nick of time from a skip and has been restored to full working order by Centre volunteer Pat James.
Said Pat: “The old saying ‘On Your Bike’ has taken on a new meaning for volunteers since we acquired this one. There would have been dozens of bicycles at air stations like RAF Pembroke Dock. It was a humble form of transport but so important to so many airmen and women stationed here.”
