James Parfitt backs nationwide promotion

Well known local businessman and chairman of the Pembroke Dock Chamber of Trade Mr James Parfitt is backing a nationwide promotion by telecoms giant BT regarding its “Infinity Broadband.”

BT is currently embarking on a nationwide TV, radio, press and internet campaign encouraging both the public and businesses alike to vote for their home town or region on its website to have the necessary infrastructure installed in readiness for its launch in 2012.

Over the next five years BT is rolling out super fast fibre optic broadband across the UK. If you're not on the announced roll out plan “The Race to Infinity” gives you the opportunity to fast track your area to get BT Infinity in your area.

The five areas with the largest percentage of votes by December 31st 2010 will win the chance to bring super fast broadband to their area. BT will also donate £5,000 of computer equipment to a local community project in that winning area.

Those interested can log onto: www.racetoinfinity.bt.com  and register their town or area. BT will then award priority status to the 5 highest percentage votes in those areas so as not to penalise those smaller, more rural areas that may not be able to compete when it comes to sheer numbers in much larger towns or cities. Voting ends on midnight, 31st December 2010, so participants need to act now.

Mr Parfitt of Parfitt's Interiors of Pembroke Dock said, “I applaud this type of scheme which shows that business recognises communities count. I also believe that voting for your area - in my case Pembroke & Pembroke Dock, is something you have to do - especially as the internet has become such a large part of our everyday lives. It reaches all parts of society, young and old, and I am a firm believer in getting involved in my local community and I am encouraging everybody in my community to do likewise. Getting behind a promotion such as the BT Infinity Broadband scheme will not only benefit every resident and business locally with super fast fibre optic broadband which can enhance all our lives but should we succeed nationally, it will also benefit a local community project with much needed computer equipment.”

Mr Parfitt went on to say, “It’s not often that we in Pembrokeshire can have a real say in how big companies nationally goes about its business but BT’s promotion can give people a loud voice when it comes to securing what I believe to be vital for our area here in west Wales. Come on everyone – let’s vote for our community!”
