Authority considers car parking options

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority is to consider a range of options for car parking fees at its ten charging car parks in an Authority meeting being held next week.

It will be the first time in four years that any increases have been introduced at any of the car parks, and all income generated will continue to contribute to the delivery of core Authority work.

Speaking of the proposals, the Authority’s Head of Business Management, Alan Hare said: “The Authority manages 48 car parks across Pembrokeshire and currently charges are only made in ten of the larger car parks.

“These car parks provide access to the county’s finest beaches and the award-winning 186-mile Coast Path National Trail, all of which are free and accessible to local residents and visitors to use all year round.

“The increase in V.A.T. has also impacted on parking charges, with the Authority likely to incur a £6,000 loss of income across its car parks in 2011.

“The Authority is currently facing significant financial challenges, and is reviewing all operations, including car parks, to ensure that we continue to provide effective services across all areas of our work.”

The Authority’s ten charging car parks include Saundersfoot, Manorbier, Freshwater East, Little Haven, Broad Haven, St Davids, Poppit, Newport, Solva and Newgale.
