Assembly Member Angela Burns has seen for herself the impressive progress made by the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust.
Mrs Burns, the Conservative AM for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, visited the Flying Boat Centre in the former Royal Dockyard and was delighted to learn that the Centre is well on its way to attracting its 5,000th visitor since opening last summer.
She also viewed the interpretation panels which in March were displayed in the House of Commons.
Angela said: “The whole approach of the Sunderland Trust, working with its partners, is most encouraging and the new Flying Boat Centre is most impressive.
“I am very pleased that funding through the Welsh Assembly Government’s Rural Development Plan has enabled the Trust to create this unique and very special attraction and its visitor numbers already are excellent and demonstrate the success of the project.
“There is also an opportunity here to take the Trust’s message and the interpretation display to the heart of Welsh government at the Senedd and I shall explore this option in Cardiff.
“I shall keep in close contact as the Trust moves forward with its initiatives on the wider naval and military heritage of Pembroke Dock, and its exciting plans to recover the wartime Sunderland flying boat from the Haven Waterway.”
