Trust hosts a Welsh first for aviation artists
A prestigious aviation art exhibition
is coming to Pembroke Dock - helping to launch the
Sunderland Trust’s new ‘Fleets to Flying Boats’ visitor
centre and its Glass House Coffee Shop, set up in an
historic Royal Dockyard town house, which open next
week.
The Guild of Aviation Artists,
recognised throughout the world as the premier society
for the promotion of aviation art, has accepted an
invitation from the Trust to exhibit in Wales for the
first time ever.
Between Friday 24th August
and Saturday 22nd September several GAvA
members in Wales will be joined by England-based
colleagues to exhibit over 50 paintings at the new
‘Fleets to Flying Boats’ Centre.
This is located in the Fleet
Surgeon’s House alongside the original entrance to the
Royal Dockyard. Milford Haven Port Authority, which owns
this fine Georgian era building, is a key supporter of
this new venture.
The ‘Fleets to Flying Boats’ Centre
will, over the coming months, be developed into a new
and exciting visitor attraction, reflecting the town’s
unique links with all three Armed Services.
And it will have special appeal with
a coffee and tea shop in the adjoining glazed area.
Appropriately this is called the Glass House Coffee
Shop. Both will be manned by the Sunderland Trust’s
volunteer team.
The ‘soft opening’ of the new Centre
and the Coffee Shop will be on Thursday 26th
July. Opening hours will be Tuesdays - Saturdays, 10 am
to 4 pm. It will compliment the Sunderland Trust’s very
popular Flying Boat Centre which has had over 22,000
visitors in just three years.
Further details of the Guild of
Aviation Artists Exhibition will be announced later.
