Fighting and farming at the Fort and Castle capers this half-term

Never mind, “When I was your age…” – give your child the opportunity to find out what it was like to be a Celt growing up in the Iron Age, or get him to work on some daily chores in a Tudor Castle!

Castell Henllys and Carew Castle, both sites managed by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority are offering action-packed days for children this February half-term.

In the north of Pembrokeshire at Castell Henllys there are three special ‘Fighting and Farming’ days on Monday 21st, Wednesday 23rd and Friday 25th where children can learn to build a roundhouse, cook and train to be a warrior. There is an extra charge of £2.50 per child plus entrance fee. Sessions are at 11.30am and 2pm.

On Tuesday 22nd children can spend time with a servant to the chief working to prepare meals and spinning yarn amongst other chores. On Thursday 24th a Celtic story continues in Witches, Wolves & the Wickerman – are you brave enough to join the quest? This event also involves an extra charge of £2.50 per child plus entrance fee.

In the south of the county, find out more about the incredible history of Carew Castle on 18th and 19th at 12 noon to kick off your half term outings.

Join a member of the Carew household and try weaving, bread making, calligraphy or pottery and maybe play a few Tudor games at Castle Capers on Monday 21st and Friday 25th at 11am and 1pm. Booking is advisable and will cost £2.50 plus entrance fee.

Scavenge and scramble around the Castle to find clues and solve riddles on Tuesday 22nd between 11am and 3pm.

Winter admission fees to both sites are £3 per person and £9 per family (2 adults plus 3 children). Please contact Castell Henllys on 01239 891319 and Carew Castle on 01646 651782 for more information.
