Dangers of solvent abuse
awareness event
On the 9th February the Pembroke Dock Youth
Club hosted a Solvent Abuse talk given by Rhys Jordon
from SUDDS and organised by PCSO Nadia Sullivan, PS
Lesley Buckle, Matt Done from Pembroke Dock Youth Centre
and Sarah Payne and Jane Thompson from Llanion
Communities First.
The talk highlighted the dangers of solvent abuse and
the risks it involves, 23 young people took part in the
interactive session sharing their experiences and views,
at the end of the session they were able to ask
questions which resulted in them becoming better
informed on all aspects of solvent abuse.
PS Lesley Buckle stated “this issue is becoming more
prevalent amongst teenagers with on average one person
dying each week in Britain from solvent abuse. It is
vital that we highlight the dangers of this abuse to
young people. This session was an excellent way of
achieving this and is something that we hope to repeat
to other clubs / groups in our area.”
