Young Fire Fighters
Cleaning-up in the Community
Following concerns from local
residents, Pembroke Dock Young Fire Fighters recently took
action to help clean-up known litter black spots in the Pennar
and Bufferland area.
Joined by local residents,
they gave up their free time to help remove fly-tipped waste
from Imble Lane, filling a skip with items ranging from
children’s’ toys, a microwave oven and large quantities of
rubble.
In spite of the rain, the
young fire fighters then went on to tackle debris washed up
along the Pembroke River, part of the Pembrokeshire Marine SAC
and an important site for migratory wildfowl and waders.
With
assistance from the Steve Jones and the eight wheeled Argocat
they were able to remove a huge quantity of waste which had
gathered on the shoreline over the years collecting 7 tractor
tyres, 13 car tyres and a large fridge amongst numerous other
items.
The clean-ups
were organised by Keep Wales Tidy in partnership with
Pembrokeshire County Council under the banner of the Welsh
Assembly Government funded Tidy Towns project.
Mari Williams from Keep Wales
Tidy commented, “Tidy Towns is a great way to bring local people
together to improve the
environment they
live in. The young fire fighters and local residents have
set an excellent example to their community and I hope that this
will inspire others to take pride in their communities”.
