REVOLUTIONARY SOFTWARE WINS AWARDS FOR INNOVATION AND ENTERPRISE IN HIGHWAYS, UTILITIES AND FACILITIES MAINTENANCE
Lightsout Computer Services, based in Pembroke Dock, has been recognised for its technological innovation and business success. Their revolutionary software, Corona, was centre stage at the Bright Sparc awards at Cranfield University’s School of Management on 12 May 2010. It won the Best Technology Innovation in a Business award and the Overall Bright Sparc award. The judges were impressed with the scope, scale and quality of the candidates, highlighting their strong innovation and enterprise orientated ability.
“We are absolutely delighted to win the awards, especially in such a competitive field. We have been dedicated to developing Corona to overcome common inefficiencies in the construction, utilities and facilities management industries. Corona has proved to play a particularly important role in highways maintenance. It is great to be acknowledged and we hope to continue our success as we develop our software and provide such solutions in other sectors,” said Tim Usher, director of Lightsout Computer Services.
The Bright Sparc awards celebrate the sheer tenacity behind companies and individuals, inspiring others and encouraging support. Lightsout was recognised for their clever use and integration of software, GPS and mobile technology. Corona has brought an impressive new level of service to traditional industries, while producing significant cost savings, commercial benefits and improving operating practices.
“It is great to see so many entrepreneurs who have real commitment and passion to convert innovative ideas into a successful business. That transition is possibly one of the most difficult steps,” said Silvia Vitiello, head of technology sector at MacIntyre Hudson, who sponsored the Best Technology Innovation in a Business award.
Thought to be three years ahead of its time, Corona revolutionises the efficiency of companies with more than 50 employees with field-based teams in the construction, utilities and facilities management sectors.
Operating from a central system linked to handheld devices, it powerfully combines technologies to provide real-time images and information from the field to head offices and management teams. It eliminates the elapsed time between groundworks project phases and avoids common misunderstandings surrounding the practicalities of working in public areas. Corona helps to eliminate the inconvenience and cost of overruns; it saved one customer £250,000 in the first five months.
The Overall Bright Sparc award, presented by local deputy mayor Debbie Brock, was for the company that represented the most impressive application out of all the winners, and best exemplified true technology-led innovation. Lightsout was awarded for the support Corona gives to traditional ground-based industries and for the way it has enabled them to set new benchmarks.
The judges were impressed by the enormous cost savings and practical efficiency the software brings, which is key to the success of any business.
“The award finalists display a great bunch of success stories, showing that the SME community is in very good shape. We bring businesses to Milton Keynes and encourage them to stay. This kind of event fills them with confidence and helps them to see what’s going on,” said Guy Barnett of Invest Milton Keynes, which sponsored the overall Bright Sparc award.
