NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR MILFORD HAVEN PORT AUTHORITY
Milford Haven Port Authority has announced the name of the new Chief Executive who will take over from Ted Sangster at the beginning of March.
Alec Don has had a career that spans both corporate finance with Robert Fleming and Co. and significant port experience with the Mersey Docks and Harbour Co. With the latter he was Director of Planning and then Chief Executive of the Port of Maputo, and latterly Director of the Port of Liverpool.
David Benson, Chairman of MHPA, said "I am delighted that Alec will be joining us with his mix of skills, experience and enthusiasm that will enable us to build on our success in becoming the largest and most rapidly growing energy based port in the UK. The recent arrival of LNG cargoes has provided us with a platform for further growth and commercial expansion".
Alec Don said that "I am very much looking forward to joining Milford Haven Port Authority at an exciting time in the development of the Port. The existing business supporting the oil refineries and terminals has recently been expanded with the two LNG operations that are recognised as a critical part of the supply chain of the UK energy sector. The Port is now in an excellent position to participate in another part of the energy market - that of offshore renewable electricity generation, and also building on the existing commercial activities including ferry operations and general cargo handling".
Alec currently lives near Wrexham in North Wales and looks forward to moving down with his family to Pembrokeshire to enjoy not only what he sees as one of the most attractive jobs in the UK port industry but one of the most attractive places to live.
Alec will join MHPA in February for a hand over period before taking over from Ted Sangster who has been Chief Executive since 1998. Ted's extensive experience will be available to assist the Authority until his retirement at the end of April.
