RE: LAWS STREET FIRE

Dear Editor,

I was shocked to learn of the fire which has devastated the old 'Burton's Corner', that is the corner of Dimond Street and Laws Street, Pembroke Dock, in the early hours of this morning, Saturday 10th November.  I am of the understanding that there are five flats, plus the 'Crazy But True' furniture shop that have been destroyed in the inferno.

Pembroke Dock Chamber of Trade wish to extend our warmest sympathy with those affected by this accident and we shall liaise with the Town Council and community groups to ascertain what assistance can be offered to the unfortunate individuals who have been affected by this event.

Yours  faithfully,

Andrew Lewis
Secretary - Pembroke Dock Chamber of Trade

LEGISLATION CHANGE 2007, THE VIOLENT CRIME REDUCTION ACT 2006

As of 1st October, 2007, THE VIOLENT CRIME REDUCTION ACT 2006 came into force.

Protocol dictates that I must be apolitical, although I could compose a lengthy dissertation concerning the amount of legislation being constantly churned out by the current administration!

The intention of the Act is to give Police strong powers (hold on, they've already got excessive power!) to tackle violent crimes relating to Alcohol, Knives and Imitation Guns.

For any of you selling knives and airguns the minimum age for purchase will now be eighteen.  Sale of air weapons must be face-to-face.  The onus is upon the vendor to ascertain that the purchaser is of the correct age to enter into the transaction, which has always been the case, but the penalties are now heavier.

I understand that those of you who operate licensed premises encounter extensive legislation anyway, but as I read about Drinking Banning Orders, Alcohol Disorder Zones, 48 hour closure to premises and other draconian measures, I can only offer my sympathy, as your job has become much more difficult.

I have included the link if you wish to avail yourself of the contents of these regulations.

RE: SPAR, Dimond Street 25.07.07

There is an insolvency notice on pp.71 of today's Western Telegraph relating to Park View Pembroke Limited, which is the Limited Liability Company which operated the SPAR Franchise in Dimond Street.  It is very sad to see local businesses ending their association with the town.

The Chamber would like to offer our best wishes to the directors of Park View Pembroke Limited in their future endeavours.

VBest,

Andrew.

RE: Message From Chris Morris posted 21.05.06

I have today received an email from a Civic Trust member informing me that
there is a demolition application in place on the Disabled Toilet on Front Street and the Bandstand on Western Way by the Martello Quays Companies.

RE: MARINA DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL

I attended a meeting of PDEAT last night. at that meeting I was informed that the Town Council will be having a presentation of the Marina Development in closed chambers! (see my post on the P/D Forum)

http://p2.forumforfree.com/marina-project-vt82-pembrokedock.html

County Councillor Kate Becton advised Town Councillor Ron Watts of our annoyance and frustration at this action and, as there is a meeting of the Town Council this evening, I intended to send this message to all of the Town Councillors today, but the only eMail address listed on the Town Council website is that of County Councillor Becton, which speaks volumes for their attitude towards communication in the twenty first century!

This Marina Development is of huge significance to Pembroke Dock and the positive reaction towards it by the populace cannot be underestimated, so I'm rather aggravated at this 'closed doors' policy from the UNELECTED representatives of the people of Pembroke Dock!

Let's have your views, by eMail and on the forum.

Grrrrrrrrrr!

VBest, Andrew  Lewis Pembroke Dock Chamber of Trade
