16 year old Mike Jones from the local Junior Badminton Club won a silver medal in the under 17 singles in the Pembroke Leg of the South Wales series. It was a high standard tournament with some of the best players travelling from Cardiff and Swansea. Another local player in the under 17 event - David Dutton pulled of a great win by beating the eventual winner of the final, George Cherion from Swansea, in a pool match, but couldn't maintain that standard and lost some of his other matches. David then went on to partner George Cherion in the doubles and together they won the silver medals after getting to the final.
